Innovative Treatment
Minimally Invasive Joint Replacements
Our surgeons utilize cutting edge surgical techniques and devices in order to provide the best possible solution for each patient. Minimally invasive surgery provides a lot of advantages to the patient. With very small incisions, there is less pain, faster recovery, less scarring and fewer complications.
Anterior Hip Replacement
Palmetto Bone & Joint’s own Dr. James Loging performed the first anterior hip replacement in South Carolina in 2006. Requiring advanced training and a special operating table, anterior hip replacement is an innovative procedure performed from the front of the body thereby avoiding cutting muscle, greatly reducing pain, blood loss, recovery time (and hospital stays), as well as complications. This procedure utilizes x-ray guidance for precision placement of components.
Robotics-Assisted Surgery
Palmetto Bone and Joint physicians were the first and only surgeons in South Carolina to offer robotics-assisted surgery using the Navio guidance system. An advancement in partial and total knee replacement, the system enables the surgeon to precisely position components during surgery. This optimum level of accuracy can help improve the function, feel, and potential longevity of the knee replacement.
Innovative Spine Fusions and Decompressions
Our physicians are highly trained to provide patients the best options for difficult spine conditions ranging from lumbar stenosis with spondylolisthesis to compression fractures. This may involve fusing two segments into one or decompressing the pinched nerve by removing the disc. Minimally invasive procedures reduce pain and provide for faster recovery.
Cervical Laminoplasty
Dr. Samuel Davis is the only midlands surgeon using the innovative cervical laminoplasty technique to remove pressure from the spinal cord in the neck. The condition can result from a number of causes including arthritis, bone spurs, herniations, tumors or fractures. Laminoplasty has proven to be an excellent option to remove the pressure caused by the stenosis and even reverse the symptoms – all without fusing the spine.
Cervical Disc Replacement
Cervical disc replacement is for active persons who want maximum range of motion once the pain is alleviated. While disc fusion can limit movement, disc replacement reduces adjacent degeneration, reduces the chance of future surgeries, affords maximum motion, and gets the patient back to doing what they enjoy more quickly.
MRI Compatible Spinal Cord Stimulators
Chronic back pain is a common complaint among adults. Our physicians are helping chronic sufferers conquer pain and return to normal activities with MRI compatible spinal cord stimulation. A small device similar to a pacemaker is implanted under the skin delivering mild electrical pulses to the spine.
Cartilage Transplantation
Our surgeons have been performing cartilage transplantations for well over a decade with outstanding results. The surgeon selects the appropriate option that best suits the individual patient. One option is Carticel grafting where cartilage is removed and grown in a lab for several months then transplanted, enabling the patient to use their own cartilage for the repair.
Arthroscopic Carpal Tunnel Surgery
Dr. Owens has performed approximately one thousand arthroscopic carpal tunnel repairs. This procedure uses only a small incision to the wrist to resolve the painful situation, avoiding the complications of a larger incision on the palm.
Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery
Rotator cuff surgery is one of the most common problems we face. Our surgeons use advanced technology to optimize arthroscopic surgery with more precise visualization of the cuff damage and repair the problem.
Arthroscopic Knee Reconstruction
As team doctors for Presbyterian College and local high schools our surgeons perform precise ligament reconstructions using arthroscopic repairs on high performance athletes. The outpatient procedure can also be helpful to active individuals or young laborers in a physically demanding job.
SI (Sacroiliac) Joint Fusion
The sacroiliac joint is the joint that can be the source of pain, numbness and tingling throughout the lower body, sometimes leading to insomnia and depression. Our surgeons were among the first in South Carolina to perform SI joint fusion surgery using the iFuse Implant System, an innovative minimally invasive procedure that helps relieve pain, enabling patients to return to active lives.
Dynamic Ultrasound Diagnostics & Procedures
Our physicians use advanced dynamic ultrasound to enable the study of a joint in motion as opposed to a static alternative imaging. This enables us to more accurately diagnose and treat the sources of chronic pain. With this approach, injections can be delivered directly to the source of pain, providing highly effective relief.
Telemedicine
We offer virtual visits to connect with our doctors. Just call one of our offices for an appointment. Telemedicine appointments are now covered by most insurance and are secure.
Regenerative Medicine
Our physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians are on the leading edge of regenerative medicine, utilizing platelet enrichment therapy and stem cell therapy to accelerate healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints.
